RENOVATE OR DETONATE
So far Look has shared plenty of examples illustrating how homes have undergone various renovation transformations, but sometimes it simply isn’t feasible to retain any of the existing dwelling. This is mostly due to the existing dwelling not being substantial enough to modify, which was the case in this scenario.
These homes owners requested a design that would provide a large family home complete with 4 bedrooms, swimming pool and two car accommodation, that optimised the available ocean views. The resulting design creatively responds to the sites steeply sloping typography of 3.4 metres and compact 328m2 land area, to deliver a generous 245m2 of beachside family living and 45m2 car garage.
At the ground level a raised front sitting room doubles as a guest room with separate bathroom, which sits above a 2 car under-croft garage. The home then steps down into the rear kitchen, dining and living areas, which overlook a large swimming pool strategically placed to both minimize excavation and preserve all available ocean views. Upstairs features 4 generous bedrooms and 2 luxury bathrooms, with the master bedroom ideally positioned to overlook the pool and ocean vista beyond.
